Laidback natural smoky eye for summer evening

Natural smoky eye for summer evening

This is a light pretty look for a summer’s evening. Fiona has the classic ‘Snow White’ look – oval shaped face, olive skin and bright blue eyes and dark hair. The look I’ve created is one that shows naturally glowing healthy skin with navy blue eyeliner to set off her blue eyes. To do the smoky eyes ‘lite’, I’ve used a bronze palette with a subtle shimmer, and no black at all.

You can wear this look for going out to dinner or for your book launch!

“Ivy put me at ease from the moment I sat down.  We went through colour, style and overall effect, so that I quickly became confident that she understood what I wanted.  She consulted me at each stage: colour matching my own foundation, giving me options on colours and finish and she gave me tips on how to achieve the look by myself. Sometimes having your make up done can be a nerve-wracking experience.  There is nothing worse than looking like a drag queen with inch thick foundation and having to smile politely , while dying inside. I have certainly had a few scary results from over-zealous make up artists over the years.  I was absolutely thrilled when I saw the final effect; it was still me, just a better version of me. “

Classic glamorous daytime look with a modern feel

Classic glamorous daytime look

“When Ivy finished my makeup and I looked in the mirror, I said ‘Wow! This is how I used to look.’ I’m 42 years old /(and normally look 42), however for one afternoon after Ivy visited, I felt like the young ‘me’. I particularly liked how Ivy manged to accentuate my eyes. If I had had matching clothes and hair, I could have been a film star from the 40s!”

This look I’ve created for Michelle will never date. It is a strong feminine look. She has skin and hair in excellent condition. She is fair with warm undertones. The idea is to bring out the natural glow and health of the skin and hair using the simplest techniques of black eyeliner and orangey red lips. The foundation is light and provides good coverage. She appears to be not wearing foundation at all.

You can wear this look for a vintage cocktail party or a daytime lunch. For evening, I would adapt and create heavier contouring and more shimmer or sheen.

Day to Night Makeover Lesson cum Makeup Session

Day to Night Makeover

This is a makeover I did for Michelle which is a natural day time look heavied up to turn it into a glamorous blue eye for evening. Michelle has naturally high full cheekbones so very little contouring is necessary, as can be seen from the side profile. The last two photos on bottom row are the ‘before’ shots.

The minimal daytime look is suitable for going to work and the night time look could be for the celebratory drinks on Friday night!

“I was impressed by her professionalism and expert understanding of how to accentuate my best features, conceal skin imperfections and use makeup to create luminosity and youthful radiance. Ivy gave me a makeover session trying out several looks from natural to evening to dramatic. She gave me great tips such as how  creating and highlighting a high arch in the eyebrows and clever use of eyeshadow can widen the eyes and have a “youth-ening” effect. She also had clever tips on how to shape my lips to give them a fuller, more alluring effect. She is truly an artist with the make-up brush!”
